On Wednesday 13 July, parents, teachers, special needs assistants, and pupils, will gather outside the Dail in a Day of Protest to demand a reversal of the devastating cutbacks that the government is standing over in primary education, particularly in relation to services for children with additional needs.

Over 350 people attended the United Left Alliance (ULA) National Forum, held in Dublin on June 25. This forum was held exactly four months since the General Election at which the ULA won 5 Dail seats and was the first national gathering of ULA activists from throughout the state.

The Rupert Murdoch owned News of the World (NoW) phone-hacking scandal is being exposed in all its brutal venality. The revelations that Milly Dowler - the 13 year old murdered in 2002 - had her voicemail hacked by the private detective Glenn Mulcaire, who was working for the News of the World, has caused mass outrage.

Fingal County Council has informed Councillors by letter that it is to cease providing a bin service by the end of the year. The letter follows the issue being tabled by Socialist Party Councillors at the Council meeting next Monday.

Last month revolutionary and renowned soul, jazz and blues artist, Gil Scott Heron, sadly passed away. Most famous for his song "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised", Gil had a long and turbulant artistic career and life, and is seen as a key musical influence on the development of R&B and rap. His songs were not just mundane songs about nothing, but were scathing social commentary on capitalism and capitalist society. Friday 17th June marks the 100th day of the Fine Gael/Labour government. Enda Kenny and Éamon Gilmore set out the first 100 days as being a time when they will make a significant impact on jobs and the economy.  Voters were promised a jobs budget, renegotiation of the IMF/EU deal, and widespread reform. On all fronts they have failed. Fine Gael/Labour have continued the same failed austerity economics that the hated Fianna Fáil/Green government implemented.
